I recently gave myself a little mommy makeover (2 months postpartum what what!) and decided to add some highlights to my naturally dark brown hair. I seldom add color to my hair because the word "bleach" has always scared me but I really wanted a nice change for spring. I stopped by the dpHUE house to get my hair done by the color King Justin Anderson - his celebrity client roster includes Miley Cyrus, kelly Osbourne, Kim Kardashian, Emma Roberts, Leighton Meester, Jennifer aniston.. to name a few. He also gave me some great tips on how to take care of my color treated hair at home to prevent damage. While I was there, I expressed my fears and since I'm someone who applies heat to my hair on the reg, I needed to know exactly what products to use at home to maintain a healthy color.
We decided to add a few tints of lighter brown shades throughout the mid to ends of my hair which is really easy to maintain. I don't like visiting the salon every 3-6 weeks if I don't have to so he suggested we stay away from highlighting the roots which will allow me to go longer without the salon visits. We did add a base to my roots to dye the greys I had and he gave me the dpHUE at home hair color which is salon quality DIY (better than drugstore box dyes which can dry out your hair!)
