My Postpartum Style Guide

Postpartum style... Where do I even begin!? To be honest, I started thinking about the way I was going to dress after I had Teeny a little before I even gave birth. Dressing while pregnant was actually pretty simple for me. Depending on my mood, I either went for a bump-hugging top and comfy bottoms or just a flowy dress. Either way, the baby bump made the outfit look cute without much effort. But after having Valentina, I felt like hmm, am I supposed to show off my mini bump still- because let's be real, that doesn't magically disappear after giving birth- or do I just find ways to cover my postpartum body?

Let me tell you this babe, do whatever YOU feel comfortable with. There are no rules to dressing in general, so the same thing applies to postpartum style! Here are some Saz-tips for my gorgeous new mama's to help you dress postpartum:

Tip #1: Comfort is KEY!

My main focus especially for the first month or so was to go for what's most comfortable. With a newborn, it's hard to find any time to pull yourself together let alone try to put together an extravagant outfit! Lol! I loved wearing a lot of cozy knits I could pair easily with leggings or jeans. You can easily dress up the look a little by adding earrings or just a bold lip!

Tip #2: Matchy-Matchy

This is one of the easiest ways to look put-together! I love wearing sets because it for one it looks like you made some effort styling your outfit- ha! But also, you can wear the pieces separately and come up with a whole new look! Your size tends to change a lot after pregnancy so getting lots of use out of the same clothes is a great idea and saves you money!

Tip #3: Keep it High-Waisted

Looking back on my outfits postpartum, I notice I wore a lot of high-waisted clothing. The main reason why I gravitated towards that look is that it's super flattering. The bottoms hit right at the smallest area of the waist so not only does it look great but it's also really comfortable. The stomach region is one area that's the toughest to lose weight on so this style will help conceal that without the need to wear Spanx!

Tip #4: Flat Out Footwear

You guys know how much I love wearing heels, but sometimes it's just not practical especially with a newborn! These days I mostly go for shoes that are flat but still fun! Mules are a must-have in my opinion because they're a little more on the dressy side but still comfy. For the days where I have a lot of errands to run with Valentina, I always grab my go-to sneakers instead!

Tip #5: Layering on

This tip really depends on the season but I find layering a third piece to your outfit helps switch things up. Once you discover a look you're most comfortable in; it's hard to stray too far from it. My way of making the same sort of outfit- like my favorite a top tucked into bottoms- more interesting is adding a jacket to the look! That way I have so many more variations of rockin' what I feel the best in while mixing things up! For the warmer months you can grab a lightweight duster or denim jacket, and for Autumn/Winter, a coat can be your go-to!
