Being in my third trimester, I feel like I've officially got the hang of my maternity style - yay! At first, I felt really iffy about maternity clothes. I didn't want to invest in too many pieces that I would only get a few uses out of, but at the same time, my old clothes just weren't fitting anymore! So over the last few months, I've experimented with many baby bump appropriate clothing options, and I can finally say I know what works and what doesn't for me. I thought why not share my tips with soon-to-be mamas as well!
Maternity shopping can be challenging when it comes to a growing belly, especially when you're trying to figure out your new size! When your waistline is continuously growing every week, you don't want to spend too much on clothes, so let's discuss alternatives. For me, finding basic and stretchy pieces that I can style in every trimester has been a life-saver. I love a comfortable bodycon dress that I can wear over and over again, whether that's layering it under a coat or a cozy knit sweater. I wore this one recently by Forever 21 and paired it with a loose trench coat. I felt comfy and fabulous. It was perfect for a date night but comfy enough where I could enjoy the evening out with my hubby.
You don't always have to wear clothes that are labeled as "maternity" only, so don't be afraid to check out the plus size sections at stores like Target and Forever 21! I recently explored this section and found so many cute/comfy things! Cardigans and flow-y dresses are everywhere (TJ Maxx & Marshalls have lots of cute but cheap ones right now). The best tip when shopping non-maternity is to make sure you pay close attention to the waistline area! If it has a drawstring tie, you might need to go up a few sizes, so it sits comfortably and is easy to tie around your growing waist. Just a tip! :)The only thing I had to replace during my pregnancy completely were my bras! My old ones just didn't fit after 14 weeks, but luckily I found new ones that are perfect for my new bust size. My favorite bra brands for maternity have been Natori, Calvin Klein, and Third Love.
One thing I've learned along the way is to avoid wearing clothes that are too baggy; they can actually make you look heavier than you are. Finding a happy middle ground is really important and will allow you to show off your bump while still looking/feeling super cute! My last tip is to have fun with your accessories and makeup! I've really enjoyed paying more attention to those two details, and it has truly helped me feel like myself during these last couple of months.Hope you babes found this blog helpful!
