It all starts in the shower. In other words, I don’t wash and re-straighten my hair everyday. I wash my hair every 2-3 days (sometimes 4 – it just depends on the level of activities.) When my roots get a little greasy/oily I will spray some dry shampoo and I’m good to go.

The products I use for my straight hair are pretty simple. I’ll go into more detail in this next section. It’s important to note what’s in the products you use and the amount you’re applying to your hair. However, there’s nothing wrong with putting product in your hair. I change up my hair routine depending on whether or not it’s been colored, the specific hairstyle I want to achieve, etc. For my straight hair routine, I’ve been using Living Proof’s Perfect Hair Day shampoo and conditioner since I got back from the Boston summit and I love it! I like the smell (that’s important to me) and how it cleans my hair. In other words, it gets all the product and goop out since the last time I washed. I get out of the shower and feel like my hair was actually cleaned. A fresh new palette to work with every time!

Washing Tip: When you condition your hair, run your fingers through it or use a wide-tooth comb while you’re in the shower (I know it hurts sometimes!) but this really helps penetrate the conditioner into your hair deep into the follicle. Just what I need!

Time for styling. Here’s what I use to prep for my blow dry. When my hair is still damp, I apply Kerastase ‘Keratine Thermique’ product for anti-frizz and heat protection (just a nickle size for my short hair is all I need). I’ve also been using Davines ‘All in one Milk Treatment’ which is one of my favorite parts of all time. It’s a unisex product and it also is a heat protector and smoothing agent. Now I will blow dry my hair with an ionic blow dryer. The negative charged ions in an ionic blow dryer help cut the blow dry time in half with no frizz. It’s so much healthier for your hair too! (Ionic vs. Conventional hairdryers – I can go on all day. I will link + recommend one at the end of the post) Next, section by section after my blow dry I will run my flat iron through my hair. As I’m sectioning it, I spray the last product which is Living Proof’s ‘Straight’ directly onto the piece of hair I’m about to flat iron. Flat iron’s are where most of the damage begins to take place so by spraying this directly to each section as a thermal protector – it protects your hair up to 450 degrees! I love it! (I’ll even spray it on day 2 as I touch up with the flat iron)

I love my hair since using this de-tangling brush you see in the picture above. I haven’t used a ‘regular’ brush when I get out of the shower in over 2 years! You can get one anywhere (super cheap). Also, I’ve been using T3’s straightener for my hair which gets the job done fast!

Curly hair tip: I love my curly hair and there are days when I go au natural to give my hair a rest. My curls will dry up faster (especially after the gym) so I recently started co-washing. Basically this is when you hop in the shower and skip the shampoo and only use a light amount of conditioner. It helps!

Hope you enjoyed this post. Should I do an exact same one for curly hair? If so, comment below and let me know if that sounds like something you want to see!

  1. I would love it if you did one for curly hair, my hair is your length, very dry, and wavy curly(even though it sounds nice, its dry brittle mess) i would love some tips on how to manage it and look great. Thank you so much, I love your blog, your tips, and pictures. 😊

  2. Hello Sazan!
This was a great post! 🙂
Can you tell us the name of the eyeshadows from MAC from your latest “best foundation” make-up video? Have seen many questions about it.
And where can I find your outfit for Living Proof? The black turtleneck top and the skirt? Just WOW! <3<3<3

  3. Love it Sazan!! I have naturally curly hair as well, like super curly. I always like to keep jt straightened so this info really helps! If I have a day where I keep my hair curly after washing, I have problems with it looking dry and a bit frizzy. Any tips? Thanks again!

  4. Hi! How do you keep humidity from ruining all of your hard work? That’s always the tricky factor when I straighten my hair.

  5. Hi Sazan!
Thank you for sharing this post. 🙂 I have waited for this post since long time. I have a thick curly hair like yours and i have been struggling with it. I have never used a straightener (Still doing my research on buying a good one). I always blow dry my hair. It is super tiring. Have you tried the curl leave in conditioner of Living proof? I still haven’t figured out how to use it. I would love to know about your curly hair routine.

  6. Would love a curly tutorial! I have serious #hairenvy of how your hair looks when it’s curly. #hairgoals

  7. I love and wish i could actually follow up but i have african hair…..can you please for the sake of girls like me suggest a hair product that softens and grows hair…xo

  8. Love this post! I’m the same way, wash my hair every 3-4 days depending on how oily my hair is looking since washing it every day or every other day strips your hair of all its natural oils and that’s no bueno. I’m gonna give those products a try btw! XO’s

  9. I would loveeeeee a curly hair tutorial, I love how you curly hair looks, and I would like to stylish mine like yours 🙂

  10. Hi Sazan!

Loving this post! I think it would be realy nice if you do a hair routine throughout the week (how you deal with it every day from shower to shover). I like styling my hair, but frankly speaking the second day it does not look that good. It goes back to something ‘idecisive’ curly and does not look polished any more.

Thanks for this interestig post and have a nice weekend.

  11. Sorry, me again)))

Do you have any tips on how to sleep and not damage all the hard work you’ve done with your hair?

    Thanks again.

  12. Hi Sazan! Love your blog. Could you please do a video sharing what make up brushes you use for face and for eyes? I notice you always use the same ones and I want to invest in a good set! Just a suggestion. 🙂

Also, I would love your tips on how to dress fashonably in an office setting during the winter!

  13. I would love to see a curly hair tutorial! It is so hard to find the right products to style my hair.

  14. I just watched some of your BYOB Youtube videos, because I just started a new blog. I love your tips and I decided to check out your blog! Your pictures are amazing btw!

  15. Love this post! I’ve never tried that many products on my hair before for straightening my hair, just the regular thermal protectant. I will try your routine as it really looks good on you! By the way, can you also make a tutorial video for this one?! Can’t wait for it!

  16. Thanks for sharing your straight hair routine. I’ve tried a sample of kerastase before but it’s way too expensive for me so I just use some Redken conditioner now. I’m glad to hear you also wash every other day like me. Ain’t nobody got time to wash their hair daily; it’s not gonna happen!
