Are you summer ready!? Beach. Check. Bikini. Check. Cute shades. Check. I’m all set thanks to my new pretty swimwear essentials from GUESS.
Funny story, I live so close to the beach but rarely do I actually get a chance to go! Now that summer is here, it gives me the perfect excuse to rock my favorite swimsuits and soak up some sun. I decided to bring work to the beach and snap some photos (of me being a beach bum basically) in my new swimwear to get you summer ready! What I’ve noticed about my personal style (when it comes to swim) is I love bohemian styles but feminine/flirty ones too.
Boho Beach Bum
There’s something about fringe that gets me every time. My eyes are always drawn to fringe things so when I saw this black fringe monokini (with some cut-out details on the sides) I instantly fell in love. It’s not the perfect piece to lay out in if you’re trying to get a tan, but it’s super cute for a girl’s day at the beach – especially if you wear it under a pair of cut-off shorts. It will totally look like your wearing a cute top! #winning
The Flower Girl
You know what they say about flowers. It’s a girl’s best friend! (I just made that up). But basically, this floral bikiniis my favorite because it’s feminine and flirty but not too girly. Not only is it great for getting your tan on, but I like that the top is padded so it gives your girls a little lift #justsaying
Now that summer is here, we can bring the mirrored colorful sunnies back into our wardrobe. Yay! I love the style of these white and pinkish purple-ish ones. It’s like edgy and girly had a baby.
I don’t have a pair of nude colored sunglasses so I knew these ones would be perfect to have for summer. The blue frames make a fun and bold statement that my summer wardrobe craves.
Shop my looks atGUESS – which of the two looks is your favorite?
First and foremost Happy Memorial Day loves. I’m currently out of the country but wanted to take a moment to remember today’s special holiday. I am truly blessed to live in the USA. It’s a place where no one can take my freedom away and I am forever honored by all of the heros who have died (and continue to fight) to protect our beautiful land and. So much love to all the troops out there!!
I knew Memorial Day was coming up before I left the country, so I finally found the perfect excuse to take this adorable picnic basket (one of our wedding gifts!) out to the park last week. I’m so glad that summer is finally here so I can have more picnics! I decided to wear my newestlittle white dress to cherish the experience. I love a playful style like this that you can dress up or wear casually with a pair of sandals. It’s totally comfy, cute and feminine.
Lastly, one of my favorite perks about Memorial Day are all the sales that go up online. Nordstrom is currently having their half yearly sale which includes up to 40% off select styles. I picked some of my favorite things below. <3
Hey guys! I just wanted to share a quick note with you letting you guys know my Europe trip has arrived and I’ll be heading overseas tomorrow! I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it! Today on my channel, I shared a fun video of some of the items I’m going to take on my trip (courtesy of Contiki!). You’ll notice a special cameo from a special someone. Wink wink.
I’ll be returning to the states on June 11th. While I’m traveling, I am going to try my best to post some pictures throughout the journey but follow me onInstagramand SnapChat (SazanBarzani is my username) for fun posts and pictures. It’s going to feel like you guys are going with me on this trip. I can’t wait!!!!!!
I am about to start packing for the trip. I know I’m going to want to shop over there, so I’m going to try to pack light with basic items I can re-wear over and over again. Of course I want to look good on this trip but I have a feeling with the fast-paced itinerary (we’re hitting 9 cities in 10 days), my main focus is going to be comfort!! I’m okay with wearing tennis shoes as long as I get to enjoy all the incredible moments and experiences with my husband in Europe.
Nine years ago my mom told me that for every night I forgot to remove my makeup, my skin would age 9 days. ahhhh! Whether that myth was true or not, I’ve made it a priority since I was a teen to take my makeup off at night (no matter how tired I was). Fast forward to now. The older I’m getting, the more I’m noticing the same routine that worked for me when I was 16 isn’t so peachy anymore. I’ve compared my skin to a car before. It’s like when you’re young, it’s in the new smelling car phase. Well, we all know where I’m going with this story. Today I’m stripping off all my makeup and sharing an update to how I take my makeup off. Hope you enjoy this one.
I’ve mentioned several times (and shown in my videos!) that I was using Neutrogena’s eye makeup remover wipes to remove all my makeup from a busy day. I can’t hate on the product because I’ve really gotten used to loving it so much. It wasn’t until recently I had to slam the brakes on my skincare routine and change some things up. But first…I need to come face-to-face with a few things I’ve been ignoring for years…
Problem #1: I noticed I was wiping away my makeup (especially under my eyes) the wrong way. Oops! One of my sazscribers on Youtube was balls-y enough to point out how aggressive I was being with the wipe. (I totally didn’t know how sensitive and thin the skin is around your eyes.) Instead of gently removing the makeup, I would rush with a heavy hand not realizing how damaging this can be in the long-run. (aka wrinkles!!!!) I think we get so tired at night that we try to rush through the process and get it over with.
Problem #2: The makeup removing wipes. I hated coming to terms with this because the wipes have made my life easier (or so I thought). We all know it’s not the healthiest or smartest option for the long-run.
Now – I knew it was time to change things up.
After a long and busy day, the last thing I want to do sometimes is scrub my eyes out with stinging soap and water. Ouch! As of recently, I’ve been using extra virgin coconut oil as an alternative on a Q-tip to remove the eye makeup under-neath my eyes (and I use a cotton round for the eye-lids/lashes). It’s really made a difference and has helped hydrate the skin under my eyes. One of the most under-rated beauty products that truly makes a difference (for me!) are my cotton rounds. After I got married and moved into Steve’s place, I left a lot of things behind at my old apartment. One of those things were my Q-tips and cotton rounds. The first night at the new place, I tried a few things to try to remove the makeup. I tried a cotton balls. FAIL. Next, I tried toilet paper. DOUBLE FAIL (and it was the soft kind!!) Basically, things just kept getting messier and messier. The lesson learned? Never throw away cotton rounds. Ever. Again. I literally learned to appreciate my cotton rounds after this moment.
Cotton rounds weren’t just made for your toner
If we dig deep into my cotton round obsazzion, I’ll tell you not all cotton rounds are equal. The best ones I’ve experienced so far are fromSwisspers. They don’t tear when you apply the product on your face and best of all – they’re gentle and things won’t get super messy. #yay
Throughout all of this, I’ve learned to accept that there’s no such thing as perfect skin. It’s truly a lifetime journey to keep up with. Just like a car, you’ve got to get polish, tune-up and change the oil every now and then. (I’ll stop with the car metaphor). In all seriousness, I know wometimes it gets super disappointing when you spend all your money (and time!!!) trying to find the perfect products for your skin type. Trust me, I’ve been there. I’ve realized what works for some doesn’t work for all but that doesn’t mean quitting on your skin. Always take your makeup off and sleep naked (your face that is!! Remember, the technique and application tools are important.
The obsazzion continues..
If you follow me on Twitter, you probably noticed the live National #SleepNaked tweetathon that I participated in this past Sunday night. I hope it inspired you to practice safe sleep. The next time you take your makeup off, I hope you’ll think of this post. And maybe you’ll join the no makeup selfie challengewith me?
Today I’m so excited to share my most exciting post yet. MY WEDDING DAY! Ahhh It was truly the happiest day of my life and you’ll see why. I couldn’t stop smiling. I probably shouldn’t forget to mention that we ended up planning this wedding in 5 weeks. We were engaged for 6 months and it was a classic Sazan move to wait last minute to get the ball rolling. lol Okay, let’s re-live the magic. I’m going to share some intimate pictures with you and take you through the big day.
Our small ceremony took place at a private residence in Malibu, California on Friday, May 8th. The forecast kept saying it was going to rain all day. I was a little worried because it was cloudy all morning. I remember taking a moment in the car on the way up to Malibu and praying with Stevie’s mom for the sun to come out. Literally 10 minutes after we prayed…the sun came shining out. By the 6pm ceremony, the view was perfect.
This place was insane. We were originally going to have the reception party on the roof top overlooking the ocean but we were afraid it would get super windy at night so we decided to party inside (which is just as breathtaking).
Getting married outside was a must for Stevie and I. We’re big nature lovers so we knew that being near the water would be the perfect backdrop for our ceremony.
You know how they say on the day of your wedding the bride gets super psycho and panicky? That totally wasn’t the case for me. I was the calmest I’ve ever been in my life. I was a little shocked hahaha. It was such a chill day and everything went smoothly.
This dress originally looked NOTHING like this.
Funny story about THE DRESS: Because I waited so late to plan this wedding, when I went dress shopping I was shocked that most places said it takes 4-6 months to get your dress sized, altered, with multiple fittings etc.. I WAS LIKE WHAT PLANET HAVE I BEEN LIVING ON AND WHY DIDN’T ANYONE TELL ME THIS. HAHA. Basically I had a couple of options. 1.) I had to buy a sample dress off the rack and make it work somehow or 2.) Find a bridal store that offers tons of dresses, pick one, and take it to a really good tailor to transform it into your dream dress. I went with option 2. I decided to go to BHLDN (Anthropologie’s bridal line!) which is down the street from my house. The original dress (below) had sleeves which looked a little too grandma on me, but I loved the whimsical flow at the bottom of the dress. I knew with a good tailor, there was hope!
Stevie and I agreed not to see each other before the ceremony so we took our individual pictures with the photographer a couple hours before. Our photographer and friend Jon kept me focused! I was like a giddy school girl because I knew Stevie was in the opposite side of the house getting ready and I kept getting so excited. ha!
I mentioned the funny story on my Instagram about the flowers at my wedding. When Matty our florist asked me what flowers I wanted for the wedding, my bouquet..etc my response was, “Pretty ones!” With that being said, I had no clue. I gave Matty and his team full control over the flower situation (which I know must’ve felt like a lot of pressure for them) but they killed every detail! I wanted my bouquet to be simple and elegant. Matty went with white peonies which I absolutely loved!
How handsome was my groom!?!? Most grooms just “show up” the day of the wedding. Stevie played a huge role in the wedding planning process. There were days when I literally couldn’t get out of work assignments and/or bed because I was so exhausted from a long week that he would take charge and coordinate with our planner and handle all of the details. He didn’t want me to stress. LOVE HIM.
The Ceremony + Reception
Finally. The best part. Our ceremony was super intimate with just 35 guests. I walked down the aisle to one of the first songs we ever loved together, Bon Iver: Holocene. The moment I walked down and saw him at the end of the aisle, I was fighting back the tears. I felt God’s presence all over me and the prize He was about to bless me with for the rest of my life. It wasn’t easy getting to the alter (so many cultural obstacles over the years) that only Stevie, myself and God can comprehend. I couldn’t help but think back to everything we’ve been through over the past 3.5 years and the journey to get to this moment. And in that moment, I felt like I won the lottery.
Our families praying over us moments before we exchanged our vows. So special!
We decided to write our own vows which was my favorite part of the ceremony. The day before the wedding, I tried practicing but I kept crying after the first sentence. LOL #GetItTogetherSaz
The moment after the kiss. Offically Mr. and Mrs.
We took these photos right after the ceremony. As you can see, we were so overwhelmed with joy!
The Dinner Reception
Dinner was so special. We had Kurdish food!!!!! Niroj restaurant in Malibu catered our wedding food. We served tons of traditional Kurdish cuisines to our guests. I love this photo of Stevie feeding me Dolma. Culturally, it truly meant so much more than what you see here. I love that he embraces my culture and values these small details. <3
I’m so excited to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. He makes me soooooo happy!!!!!
I hope you enjoyed re-living my wedding day with me and that it inspired you to embrace love! I mentioned this wedding was super small and intimate because it was only Part 1 of the celebration… I’m excited to share that we will be having a bigger reception party with more family and friends this July in… TEXAS!!!!!!!! It’s our home state and where we fell in love.
There’s a few special people I need to thank for helping Stevie and I make this wedding happen.Caraventsteam (Cara + Meredith you rock!), Matty and ThePetalWorkshop team, Mina, Jane (you were the MVP!),Our families and speciallymy big sister Sayran (thanks for being with me every step of the way), and mama Hendrix (thanks for being our right hand woman), Richard (thank you for keeping things on track), Jon Volk (you brought our vision to life!), Block of Joy (amazing videography team), Lisa Montero (You made my hair look so fleek!!!) andLyndsay (for giving me the best makeup of my life) and Niroj restaurant (their Kurdish food was so good!) and of course all of our amazing guests who are a blessing in our lives!
Cheers to getting another wedding!!!! #Part2 #StevieandSazan
Happy Monday! I’m baaaaack! After taking a couple weeks off to enjoy my marriage and honeymoon with the hubby, I’m back in action! Let me just say – Cancun was the perfect getaway and we can’t wait to go back. I’m excited to share more details about our wedding with you very soon.
I realized I hadn’t uploaded this video to my channel which I created 2 weeks ago. I guess in the crazy wedding planning process I totally forgot. Oops! Good thing it’s never too late to share a natural everyday makeup routine. The twist is this one requires NO FOUNDATION! I’ll admit, there are times when I want my skin to breathe so I’ll skip it and/or I’m in a hurry and need to run out the door. Plus summer is here and I prefer to skip it because I hate when I feel like my makeup is melting in the heat! This technique has worked really well for me to help me create a flawless finish without foundation.
Watch the video + links to all the products I used HERE
P.S. It’s important to mention that your skincare routine plays in role in this (which I did not mention in the video). I’m going to do an updated skin routine video soon because in the past couple months or so I’ve changed up my regimen and have noticed healthy improvements.
Hope you enjoy the video (maybe enough to even subscribe!?) and that you’ll come back for more. Have a great day cuties! Time for me to start packing for Europe (we’re leaving on Saturday!!!)
This coming weekend is going to be a big-time celebration. I’ve been counting down the days and can’t believe my May 8th wedding date is tomorrow!
Before I say “I do”, there is a special date that needs to be had in celebration 0f Mother’s Day on Sunday. I recently shared how excited I am to add a new mom into my life. I decided to pick Mrs. H up from the airport when she arrived into town yesterday and to celebrate the joy of getting another mom! Of course I had to bring her a little surprise. It goes without saying the little gift I got her is nothing compared to the huge gift she is in my life. When I surprised her with this Coach watch, she instantly mentioned how watches are her favorite accessory. Score! Thankfully, she doesn’t have a rose gold watch in her collection so this was the perfect Mother’s Day gift for her.
As cheesy as this may sound, she’s been an amazing ‘coach’ during the most transitional season of my life. She is the type of person who listens to every word you say and will inspire you with what she says! Some of the best advice she’s given me on how to be a great mom (like her) is to simply be PATIENT.
If there is one thing I can’t be patient about, it’s marrying her son tomorrow. Ha! I can’t help but stare at my pretty watch as the time passes one hour, minute, second closer to me becoming a bride. I hope you guys cherish your day with the mothers and women who have made an impact in your life. The next time you guys hear from me, I will be a married woman.
Let’s do this! Special Thx to Coach x Chictopia for sponsoring this post. All opinions/words are my own. <3
As I count down the days until I say “I Do,” there’s another exciting event happening later in May that I CAN’T WAIT FOR! Get ready you guys! Here’s the secret..
Shortly after my honeymoon this month, Stevie and I are packing our bags again and traveling to Europe for 20 days!!!! Ahhh!! This is going to be the adventure we’ve always dreamed of going on as a newly married couple. We’ve been working closely withContiki to plan a trip overseas to enjoy the full European experience. You guys know I’m hyper (and so is my husband-to-be) so we wanted a fast-paced journey that will keep us busy and entertained. They helped us find the perfect trip. We’re going to explore so many amazing sites thanks to Contiki and we even got to include some ‘Me Time’ couples activities to relax and try some local spots in each city (with your help maybe!?). Keep scrolling down to see the cities we’re visiting!
Hitting all the stops: London | Amsterdam | Rhine Valley | Munich | Austrian Tyrol | Venice | Rome | Florence | Lucerne | Paris
I’m so excited for this new journey to start with Contiki, which I found out caters to 18-35 year olds. I’m so glad we found them to help us make this trip unforgettable. We’re planning a few more trips with Contiki this year so check out their site and help me decide where we should go? By the way, I am challenging myself to pack ONE SUITCASE ONLY. This is going to be my first multi-city trip so I’m nervous and excited to see how I can fit my entire life in one suitcase. As Contiki says, #NOREGRETS! (Maybe Stevie will let me steal some of his luggage space. ha)
Now to the important question- What am I going to wear!? I’m already starting to think strategically about what outfits I can pack, and I definitely have a feeling that mixing neutral colors with a pop of print is the way to go. A key essential I have to take with me is a leopard bag because it makes a statement and is easy to transition from day to night. This outfit is the ultimate vacation look and has me dreaming of a summer European getaway!
From the places we’ll see to the food, activities, hotel experiences and people we’ll meet – We seriously can’t wait to pack our bags. This is going to be my best #sazantravels experience yet! Who knows, maybe I’ll even bump into a few of you international beauties.
If you guys have any recommendations for places and things Stevie and I should check out on our Contiki tour, comment below and let me know. Stay tuned for more exciting updates! (hint: this could include meet and greet invitations!!!) #yay
Happy Sunday you guys! I am literally counting down the days until I marry Stevie Friday May 8th. #Yeeeeeeeee I want the day to hurry up and arrive already! I decided to distract my impatient self by looking through hundreds of photos of us on this beautiful Sunday!
4 Years Strong
When they say a picture speaks a thousand words – now I know why. As I’m looking back at some of these pictures from 4 years ago, I can’t help but tear up thinking of all the memories that have led us here today. A lot of these photos I’m sharing with you guys are so personal and candid from our good ole’ college days! I actually met Stevie when I was producing the Nightly News Cast for the Radio, TV, Film Department at UNT. He was the “sports guy” and I remember at the end of every newscast being so blown away by his talent on camera. He was born to be an entertainer. I noticed there was something special about him but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Whenever Stevie came around, I knew I was going to laugh and smile. He was a charmer!
In the short time that I’ve introduced Stevie to you guys, you’ve probably seen the entertainer that he is. He is so funny, but there’s so much more about him that I love. When he came into my life, I was a lonely and lost little girl trying to find a purpose for my life. He taught me how to let go and LET God. I love that together we mesh so well but when the going gets tough (which it has!) we look to the center of our relationship in God. Jesus really is our homie you guys! ha
I am so excited to marry my best friend in 5 days. Thank you all for supporting our love. We enjoy sharing this incredible blessing in our lives with you.
