Happy Friday! Today I’m sharing some new (and old!) makeup products that are currently hanging out in my makeup bag. I love incorporating new products with my everyday favs because it’s a fun way to spice up my daily routine each season.

I’m not one to go too cray-cray with experimenting, but I am a sucker for buying two things: eye shadow color palettes (based on the season!) and bold lip sticks. No regrets because eye shadow and lipstick are two things I wear (almost) everyday. They are vital accessories to an outfit ladies! Whether I’m rockin’ a smokey eye or a bright pink lip – I love having options so that I can re-create celebrity inspired looks from the celeb-way to the real way.

People always ask me what my favorite makeup product is. Honestly, that’s like asking a mother who her favorite child is. ha! I will say that I can’t live without my blush. This Naked palette was sent to me recently from Urban Decay and I instantly fell in love with it. It comes with three shades including a matte bronzer, highlighter and pretty pink blush. This is going to be perfect for my travels to have all three in one! Since we’re on the subject of Urban Decay’s Naked products, I also recently added their bronzing beauty palm moisturizer to skin prep. It gives my face + neck this hydrated glow and tint before I apply my oil-free foundation. I’m pretty picky with my foundation so I’ve been stuck to this one  for years. It is my favorite because the coverage is amazing and the liquid won’t break you out because it’s oil-free (my shade I get is called honey beige).

Healthy skin tip: ALWAYS make sure you NEVER sleep with your makeup on and keep your hands away from your face during the day to prevent dirt from entering your pores. This sometimes is the cause of irritation/breakouts. If your face or T-zone area gets oily sometimes (like mine!), I always keep these oil-absorbing sheets in my purse. Instead of a napkin, these actually absorb the oil without removing your makeup. If you run out and let’s say you’re out and desperate in public, sneak away to the restroom and use the glossy side of a toilet seat tissue cover! You know what I’m talking about? It works!

Cheers!

Get the Face: Natural Everyday Makeup

makeup, face, beauty, get the look, what is fashion, street style, los angeles, best blogger, affordable finds, zara trends, trends, spring 2014 fashionOutfit Details

Hey guys! Today’s Get the Face is from one of my recent outfit posts, “Mixing Textures“. If there is a lot going on in my outfit (in this case there was; I was mixing many textures and prints!), I will usually keep my hair and makeup more natural. I consider my hair/makeup an accessory so for me it’s all about finding balance so that one doesn’t overpower the other.

Lips: I am a girl who loves my lip-gloss. With that being said, I can be pretty picky. I don’t like the super sticky glosses but I hate the really light ones that last 5 seconds even more. The taste/smell is also just as important as the touch! If it isn’t pleasant on the nose why would I want to wear that on my lips all day? YSL’s lipgloss collection is the answer to these nightmares. This brand is a personal favorite because the lip gloss applicator is like a paintbrush which makes it super easy to glide on my lips and get my money’s worth! I like a little shimmer in my gloss but I also like matte sometimes so I’m always a happy gal when I see they have a wide variety of both at the cosmetic counter. What’s not to love!?

Eyes: I recently got this dual ended eyeliner from NYX  and I wasn’t so sure how I would like it at first because so many of these type of eyeliners have failed me in the past. I like my liner bold and I don’t want to apply 5-6 coats to get the look! However, this one actually IS bold after one coat. It has two sides – one is liquid and the other is crayon for all you indecisive folks like me out there.  I like using both sides in one setting because the crayon can create a smokey/smoldering look around the edges. For $10, I definitely think this liner is worth stocking up!

Face: I have normal/combination skin, so usually I’ll get oily around my T-zone as the day goes by if I don’t keep it under control! I finally figured out how to keep it shine-free all day. After I wash my face, I apply an oil-free moisturizer and shortly (when I’m about to do my makeup!) I start the process with this amazing anti-shine matte primer around my t-zone (aka top of the forehead between brows, nose, chin). Next, I will apply my liquid foundation (which is also oil-free!) and mix some of my fav concealer to give it more of a flawless coverage. I press down the foundation with a translucent powder (except under the eyes and nose! I’ll tell you why later). Next comes my YSL Touche Eclat highlighter (in shade 2.5) which I apply underneath my eyes to brighten the dark circles. I recommend going a shade or two lighter than your foundation because the color underneath your eyes naturally appears darker. Now I’ll tell you why I didn’t apply the translucent face powder under my eyes.  I use this brightening powder instead (which is as light as air!) designed to set makeup under the eyes without it looking heavy and too matte (and bringing out the wrinkles!).. Ya feel me!? It really is a magical powder that I can’t leave the house without wearing. I finally finished off the face with my favorite bronzer and blush and topped it off with (my fav part!) this shimmer highlighter stick from Benefit (pictured above). This is different than the YSL highlighter because it has a nice shimmer to it which looks AMAZING when you apply it right above the cheekbones and on the nose bone. Talk about the perfect glow! I even add a little bit of this to my cupid’s bow which perks up and defines the lips.

Hope this helped you Get the Face! Let me know what makeup style of mine you want to see revealed next!

Cheers.

Get the Face: Day or Night Inspired Makeup

I like my face looking oil-free but also glow-y (in the right spots!). After years of trial and error with makeup brands that I loved or hated, I finally figured out how to achieve my perfect look. And guess what? What happens in the bathroom mirror doesn’t stay there because I’m sharing my secret. Read on..

Want a look that you can take from day to night without having to re-apply over and over again?! I get asked tons of questions about my makeup routine and decided today I’ll share a closer look at one of my go-to favs (it’s super easy to achieve!). If there’s one thing I will invest in that is a good foundation! One of the best goals you can set is protecting your skin from harsh chemicals and irritants that are no bueno! I’m going to walk you through how I achieved this makeup look on a recent post. Hope this inspires you to try this look + shop some of my favorites while you’re at it. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Prep sista, prep!

peter roth, laura mercier, cetaphil, skin, skincare, glow, perfect skin

To achieve the look above, the most important step to begin with is the prep! Regardless of your skin type, everyone needs to prep! ;) Before I applied anything to my face, I cleansed my skin and used my favorite SPF oil-free moisturizer. After I did this I applied a firm eye cream underneath and around my eyes to give them extra moisture (which also holds the under-eye concealer better). Next, I applied my anti-shine mattifying gel which works as a primer that will hold your foundation and prevent crazy shine from happening. It’s seriously my favorite.

 Step 2: The fun part

This doesn’t include everything (like translucent powder, mascara etc) but it’s mostly everything! If your skin easily breaks out, always go with oil-free liquid foundation or a powder. The brush you use is important (critical actually!) so if you want that flawless coverage, go with the beauty blender brush and then use another brush or white sponge to press on the translucent powder. The secret brightening powder you see there (#2) I used underneath my eyes. As soon as I applied my highlighter and concealer under the eyes (not pictured but I use this one) I applied the brightening powder which is lighter than regular ole’ translucent powder – doesn’t dry out the skin and makes your eyes pop! I also included my favorite blush, it’s a rosy pink color (you guys always me on Insta!) which compliments this matte bronzer nicelyafter I contoured. I finished off this look with a bold lip and fierce cat-eye. I included links to shop all these items below!

Step 3: The magical glow

ysl, touche eclat, sephora, nordstrom, benefit cosmetics, whats up, highter stick, glowThese two items are the magic products that make me feel like I got my makeup professionally done every time. YSL’s highlighter (my shade is 2.5) goes on top of my concealer under the eyes. Then I add the brightening powder as mentioned above. This highlighter is the best, even though it’s pricey- it’s worth it. Also, Benefit Cosmetics has this amazing glow stick called “What’s up!” and girl let me tell you what is up. This stick is magic. I apply a little to my nose and at the top of my cheekbones to give my face a finished glow. It seriously lasts all day and comes with an applicator sponge but I just use my finger.

Wah la!

Hope this made sense to you. I want to do a tutorial video showing you guys because I know that sometimes it gets tricky when you’re reading a how-to instead of seeing it. ;)

Happy Monday! I’m crazy for stripes over here. I wish I could go back and celebrate yesterday (and wear this outfit) all over again. I started my morning brunching with Bebe at the SLS in Beverly Hills. Let me just say, this was no ordinary brunch ya’ll! There was plenty of fashion involved. They had a vibrant section set up showcasing their new spring arrivals (this skirt is one of them!) along with a super cute sunglass booth, DIY drink accessorizing booth and even champagne pong! <– Yes I died when I saw it and you will too. Check out some of the pics!

If this outfit could talk it would say, “hey I’m girly but totally edgy so get out of my way so I can strut my stuff.” (hhaha I seriously don’t know where I come up with the stuff I say sometimes.)

Anyways, I’m excited to share my new/favorite sweater with you (it’s to die for!). I don’t even know if  ‘sweater’ is the right word. This one is a gem. Literally. It’s embellished to the max and I’m obsazzed with the bling-bling overdose. Adding a little bling to your wardrobe can really make you stand out, so try it but remember not to over-kill (please!). For me, there’s no better way to compliment this fancy  sweater than with a chic leather skirt to match. I love mixing timeless pieces with bold one-of-kind finds.

Who’s ready for the weekend?!  I have so many exciting projects coming up that I’ve been working over-time. Can’t wait to share deets with you!

Cheers.
