THE MIX – Ep1 Fashion Tips, Shopping on a Budget & the High/Low Game
I am so excited to share that I will be a guest speaker at this year’s For the Girls Conference 2014 in Dallas! You are all invited to join me and Hope Students for “For the Girls … Fierce and Free” conference on March 28 & 29th. 500+ people are expected to attend this year!! There’s going to be so many great activities, giveaways, live music and lots more surprises!
It is such an honor that I was asked to share my story. This is an opportunity for me to be so honest and open about my faith. Living in “Hollywood” has tested my faith in soo many ways that without God I honestly don’t know where I would be today. I’ve realized for me that when I learned to listen to God’s voice and trust that He has a purpose for my life, everything started making sense. I love that God has given me a platform to inspire and share the love through my work. It’s not easy being a Christian in Hollywood. It’s even more challenging being a middle eastern girl who is Christian. If you think I have it all figured out….Wrong!! I have faced (and continue to face) so many obstacles in my personal life and career life.
Aside from speaking at the conference, I will also be doing something else which I will keep a surprise! I hope you girls attending will leave inspired and embrace God’s call on your life. This conference is designed specifically for middle school and high school girls and will capture their hearts for Christ and empower them to impact a generation. You can, and YOU will. I WISH I went to something like this when I was in middle school. Those were some of my toughest school years and memories. I hope you will grab your sister, best friend and/or mother and make this a fun girls day!
Get your tickets now! They are available now HERE for $25 (price increases to $30 on March 5th!). Group tickets are available by contacting Chelsea Rohde at email@example.com.
Live fierce and free!
How a-mazzzzzeballs is this “Clothes over Bros” graphic tee by tdotmel!? I’m obsazzzed! I am not usually a t-shirt kind of gal, but this changes my mind on everything. I love a good bold statement. Ladies, you NEED a this tee in your closet like ASAP. It’s one-size fits all, so you can dress it up like I did or wear it casually around the house. Trend to try: Pair your favorite graphic tee with a bold statement necklace. You might be thinking, “um no way. How is that fashionable!?” Trust me, it is!! I think it’s so fierce to mix casual with fancy- it’s a great way to make a statement without looking like you’re too over-dressed slash trying too hard.
Can we talk about how fabulous these green Seychelles wedges are? I think the shoes really top off this outfit. I love love love this color green and couldn’t pass up on them. A pop of color never hurts an outfit as long as you keep everything else pretty neutral. Who agrees?! Have a stylish rest of the day!!
2013! Where do I start. Wow. What an incredible year it was to say the least. I can’t believe today is the last day of the year and my LAST blog post of 2013!! Looking back 12 months ago, I made the move out to Los Angeles from Dallas and boy has it been life-changing. I think the best word to describe this year for me was Discovery. I’ve really discovered a lot about myself, this business, God and about life in general. Let’s take a look back and reminisce at some of my highlight moments in 2013! Warning: it’s about to get real cheesy up in here.
January 18th: The day I moved to LA!
One of my first palm tree pics I took living in the new city! Despite the crazy traffic, countless auditions that ended up being rejections, and the lack of southern comfort food (to name a few), I’ve really learned to appreciate this place. (Funny story, when I moved here my biggest fear was driving in this city.. Thank God I got over that fear!) I’ll admit I had so many big-baby fears after I left Texas to come out here for my career. I came here straight out of college with a degree in Radio, Television, and Film thinking I could easily get a contract based hosting job through my agent. WRONG! So much changed (including my mentality) when my blog started to take off. This big move was the first step to helping shape me up from the inside out. I never thought of myself as a business woman type but here I am. I guess it’s a bittersweet thank you to LA for turning me into the big girl I needed to be.
February 27th: I won my first national style contest!
In February, I won a national style contest (as some of you remember!!!!) that was hosted by People Magazine online. I got to represent the southern region in Cotton’s 24 Hour Road to the Runway Show hosted by one of my favorite idols Giuliana Rancic! I seriously DIED. I flew out to Miami (it was my first time) and got to meet so many awesome people including the other winners who I keep in touch with to this day! It’s definitely one of my favorite highlight moments!
April: Featured in Kurdish Globe
It was such an honor getting featured in one of the biggest English newspapers in Kurdistan! This article helped connect me to so many new and amazing Kurdish followers and supporters from around the world. I am so grateful that I was able to share my story to the homeland.
July: Went to Vegas for the first time!
This was such a fun little getaway! It was my first time in Vegas. I got a cool opportunity to host for a convention happening at The Aria Resort. They even had my face on their billboard (so crazy!). I didn’t really get to explore sin city, but I did have a chance to walk along the strip which was pretty cool! Loved it.
August: NYC for Bebe #Be9to5 Campaign
This was such a fun campaign (read all about it here)!!! I was flown out to NYC for a day to be a part of Bebe’s #be9to5 campaign. We got to shoot a really awesome video and I wore one of their stunning dresses that they let me keep! So, duh!!! This collab had to be on the highlights list. Super fun!
September: NYFW!!!, Target campaign, SpazMag pop-up Shop at Nordstrom
What a crazy amazing month September turned out to be! After years of taking off from NYFW to focus on my blog, I finally went back and it was the best EVER. I got to cover so many amazing shows and really enjoyed the NYC fashion experience. I think this was when I reeeeally realized how all my hard work was finally paying off.
September was also the month I announced my campaign with Target!!! I seriously love this store so I was thrilled when I got the opportunity. I got to attend their NYC fashion show and collaborate on a number of blog posts/videos. I am still working with them in the new year so stay tuned. Yay!
Let’s not forget about the A-MAZING Spaz Magazine pop-up shop I did in collaboration with Nordstrom! This was seriously so much fun and very surreal seeing my blog advertised in their department store. By the way, they totally let me keep the sign. It’s hanging in my room- I’m totally obsazzzed.
October: My First Birthday in LA + My First Award Show.
I guess October was the official month for firsts! I celebrated my 24th birthday for the first time in LA this year! Of course, my birthday outfit had to sparkle (outfit by Lumier)! Sparkles are always a must.
I also attended my first award show (The Hero Dog Awards)! It was crazy walking the carpet and hearing the photogs screaming your name for a picture. They actually said my name right (Thank you Donna at Pivotal PR!!!!). I will never forget how much fun I had this day getting ready with O.R.G skincare as they followed me around! Make sure to check out the video if you haven’t already. I loved the actual award show and getting to meet Jiggy! How cute is he seriously?
November: Signed with management company, Launched my YouTube, New online talk show (coming soon), NEW HAIR!
November was all about change and welcoming NEW into my life! I signed my blog with Mighty Fresh management early November. It was the perfect timing when they discovered me/my blog because I was praying that I find some awesome managers ASAP! I’m very excited to take on 2014 with management support. This industry is so tough to handle all on your own, especially when it comes to negotiating business deals/proposals that pop up in your inbox. I’m very grateful for the extra support!

November was also when I officially decided to cross-over my content into the Youtube world! It was something I was putting off for a long time and I finally woke up one morning and said, I AM GOING TO LAUNCH THIS DAMN CHANNEL! (excuse my french) I’m so happy I’ve committed one video a week to the new channel. My subscribers are increasing everyday and it’s been so cool getting to create videos that show my personality- a side you don’t really get to see in my outfit posts.
In the midst of crossing over into Youtube, I have no clue how I managed to find time to co-produce, co-host and launch a new online talk show called “The Mix” with fellow blogger babes Grasie Mercedes and Taye Hansberry (coming soon). I don’t want to give away too much because our first episode airs online in a few weeks! I will tell you that we shot 6 episodes in one day. I’ve never laughed so hard or changed into so many outfits as quickly as we did.
There’s how it all went down! I can’t believe I actually went lighter! I love my natural dark hair, but I was so ready for a change. I’m so lucky that Bianca at Sally Hershberger knew exactly what colors to blend into my hair to make it look natural and healthy. It’s going to be a while before I get tired of this color. I love the new me!
I can’t believe I just took you all (and myself) back to the start of 2013 until now. Here we are in the last day of December. What a remarkable year. All the glory goes to God! I gave my heart to Christ two years ago and can not tell you how He has transformed my heart, my faith and is truly revealing my purpose in life. There are so many more things that happened to me this year that I wish I had time to share! I am forever grateful to everyone in my life..including you guys!!! I couldn’t have asked for a better year. And it’s only going to get better. I can’t wait!
2013 isn’t the only thing I’m saying goodbye to. I was going to hold off on announcing the big news and surprise you guys, but since I’m on a roll! After managing SpazMag for almost 3 years, I’ve decided to take my blog in a new direction. In other words, I’m re-inventing it. I will have a NEW URL name (I’ll keep this part a secret for now) and whenever you type in SpazMag.com it will re-direct you to my new site and a new layout page. I’ve been working so hard on this for months to make sure it’s perfect and it’s something you all will enjoy. Okay, that’s all I’m telling you for now. Stay tuned for more updates + the launch in early 2014! New year, new me!
Have an awesome New Year’s Eve and spend it with the people you love! Keep a look out on my Instagram to see which NYE outfit you voted for ends up being the one I wear tonight! Woooo!

I know it’s still December, but I’m already predicting spring trends in my wardrobe. High-five to Los Angeles for always feeling like it’s spring outside!! A camo/army jacket is so great to have in your wardrobe because you can mix and match it several times through out the year. I decided to mix edgy with girlie (I always do!) by wearing this pretty but simple white chiffon dress.

As we say goodbye to 2013, I challenge you to try something new. Maybe that means letting go of a specific style you’ve played out, or an article of clothing you’ve been hiding behind. Maybe it’s a hairstyle. A new year gives us the opportunity to start fresh! New year, new way to look and feel your best! Speaking of, tomorrow I will share the outfit I’m going to wear (that you voted for on my Insta!!!) and also share my highlights of 2013. Looking back is going to be so bittersweet!
