Get the Look: Messy Waves for Short Hair
Beauty Hair Hair Tutorials Quick TipsThe first time I cut my hair above the collar bone, it was two years ago and I was so worried I wouldn’t be able to rock my favorite hairstyles. I styled my hair straight on most days, and got bored real quick. This time around, I’ve learned a few tricks and have learned ways to rock effortless messy waves – without looking like a triangle head. For me, the best days to style messy waves are usually day 2 or 3 unwashed hair.
I’m going to walk you through the products I used for this and the easy technique to cheat the perfect messy look! Enjoy.

1. Dry Shampoo the roots: I used EVA NYC’s Freshen Up Dry Shampoo, a featured item that will be in this coming month’s Bless Box! I simply start out by holding it 6-8 inches away from my hair and spray along the crown and roots to absorb unwanted oil and gently freshen up my hair (smells so good!)

2. Grab a 25mm curling wand: Start on one side of your head and work your way around. No need to section the hair strategically because with short hair, not every piece underneath and in the back will take around the wand (plus I don’t want to look like a poodle, personally). So I cheat the messy look by simply curling the sides and any noticeable areas (yay less heat!).

3. Curling technique: Curl away from your head. Wrap small pieces of hair around the wand and hold for a few seconds, then release and pull the hair strand down for a couple of seconds to prevent the hair from poofing out. (another option: straighten the ends for a clean/relaxed finish)
4. When you’ve finished, apply a texturizing spray (love this one from Oribe) to complete the messy look. If you notice any pieces of hair sticking up at the roots or feel like the ends need some polish, gently apply a pomade using your finger tips. (I use this one)

Hope this tutorial helps anyone out there who’s been asking about my messy waves! Let me know what other tutorials you want to see me breakdown here on my blog. Comment below because I want to know. xx

What’s the pomade u use ?? It’s not linked I guess
Oops! Sorry. The one I use is a water pomade from Baxter. https://www.urbanoutfitters.com/shop/baxter-of-california-soft-water-pomade?color=000&cm_mmc=SEM-_-Google-_-PLA-_-82530778864product_type_l1b%26product_type_l2mensgrooming&product_id=36549335%20000%200000&utm_medium=paid_search&utm_source=SEM&utm_campaign=Google&utm_term=GSC+-+Beauty&utm_content=82530778864product_type_l1b%26product_type_l2mensgrooming&adpos=1o1&creative=51648973624&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=Cj0KEQjwgODIBRCEqfv60eq65ogBEiQA0ZC5-bs1QHBNhCjP2-Du8ifWV_rSXOl_by5lNrAYcNrMEiEaAuOV8P8HAQ
What pomade and Oribe do you use ?? neither are linked! I’d love to see this as a YouTube video format as well ! Would love to see how you wear it straight too
Pomeade is from Baxter (linked it above on previous comment) and Oribe spray is their texture spray! For this tutorial I didn’t actually use a texture spray. The dry shampoo works as both!
a youtube video would be nice on how to do those curls. I am pretty unfamiliar with the straightening /curling iron
There’s a few tutorials already on my channel from previous looks! I’ll try to update soon 🙂
I love your hair! Can you explain the cut, I love how the ends look? Im chopping mine off next week and would love this look.

Thanks for the fascinating post! I have already read your website now and then for a
few months, but keep finding myself coming again. I really
hope you will not mind, but I have actually adopted
a little of the things you explained on my site and have
certainly credited you of course. I additionally posted this particular post on my Twitter page and my visitors enjoyed it.
Cheers once again!
Hey Saz, do you straighten your hair before you curl it? I love this look but blowdrying + straightening + curling for one hairstyle seems like a lot of work and damage to the hair. xx
